When I was a teenager, I loved to skateboard. I remember getting up, hopping on my board, and practicing tricks all day. It wasn’t just riding my board, it was immersing myself in anything that had to do with skateboards. It was reading skateboarding magazines, watching skateboarding videos, and hanging out at the skate shop. It was almost an obsession. It's interesting how the whole world even including Christians can be obsessed with things like sports, and hobbies and be jumping and shouting with excitement, but not be excited about the word of God.
As followers of Christ, we need to remind ourselves of God’s goodness and mercy and we can do that by flooding our attention with God’s Word. 2 Timothy 3:16 says, All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: Reading your bible will provide you with all the wisdom you can ever seek, help you deal with anything this life will throw at you, and convict the innermost parts of your heart. Hebrews 4:12 says For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
If you seek to walk with God, you must be in the Word of God. And not to read your bible just to mark it off your check list, but rather to be in it because you desire to seek God’s goodness and follow his commandments. In my life, reading my bible is the medicine for my soul. God’s word speaks to me in the form of wisdom, healing, correction, and everything I need to get through my day. When I need encouragement, I look to the scriptures, If im going through trials, I go to the scriptures, If I need Healing I go to the scriptures. When we dont flood our attention with God’s Word, that’s when we tend to steer off of the straight and narrow path which leads to us thinking we can get through life's burdens on our own. This is when worry, doubt, and fear starts to rear its head in our lives and get us discouraged.
Joshua 1:8 says This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Joshua made this his rule when leading the Israelites after Moses’ death. All of his decisions and judgments for the people must be according to God’s law, and we should do the same thing likewise. Memorize it, let it speak to you, and most importantly apply it to your life. Let the Word lead you in all of your decisions.
So if anything, remember this. Flood your attention with the word. The more you do it, the more you’ll get out of it. God will guide you through his word, it keeps you from sin, corrects your heart and will get you closer to walking with God. I challenge you to read Psalm 19. This Psalm Gets me excited and goes along with what we’ve talked about. God bless!
