Scripture readings: Colossians 3:23-24, Luke 9:23, 1 Corinthians 2:16
Remember when you were a kid and someone would ask you, “what do you want to be when you grow up?” Most would say, an astronaut, police officer, doctor, or professional athlete. Now there’s nothing wrong with choosing a career, but we all must remember that a profession is what you do, not who you are..
I spent this morning meditating in the book of Colossians, specifically chapter 3:23-24. Which says, And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. As Christians, we need to remember that we ought to serve the Almighty God all the time. Not just sometimes, but all the time.
Some Christians get into a routine where they only identify as a Christian On Sunday mornings, Sunday nights, and Wednesday nights. When those days are over, they turn themselves back to the world. Plus, they only identify as a Christian when they're around other believers. I encourage you today to break that stigma and be a follower of Christ in every aspect of your life. Spiritual warfare is real, and the most important time we need to be indwelling in the holy spirit are the days were not in church.
It's the times after we close our bible and finish are devotional, is when we need to to take up our crosses. When you go to work, let Christ dictate how you interact with your co-workers. When you make important decisions, let Christ be the determiner and ask yourself if your decision would bring glory to Him. Christ should always be on your mind and should reflect in your actions.
Luke 9:23 says, And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. Did Jesus tell his disciples to take up their crosses only on Sundays? Or only around believers? No, he said daily. And, when I say daily, that means 24/7. Our lives need to be transformed into the mind of Christ.1 Corinthians 2:16 says, For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. Our daily actions should reflect what Christ would think. Are we carrying humility throughout the day as Christ would? Are we showing gentleness and meekness to others as Christ would? Are we being bold and standing up for our faith as Christ would?
The goal for believers is to follow Christ 24/7 through our actions, thoughts, interactions with people, and our demeanor. When non-believers see you, they ought to think “that person must be a Christian! Remember what I said at the beginning, that when you were a kid, people would ask you what you wanted to be when you grow up? Let's ask this same question, but instead of saying a profession, like an astronaut, or a lawyer, tell yourself, I want to be a Christian.”
If you true believer, don’t just tell people you’re a Christian, show people that you’re a Christian. There’s a great quote from a book I read recently. It said, “Spread the Gospel, use words if necessary. True worship is showing that you love the Savior through your actions. It’s time to stop putting God off when it's not Sunday and to start being consistent daily with our walk with God. Keep praying and Stay Blessed.
